BIGGEST BLOWUP OF 2KX

OFWGKTA

TFC's TOP VIDS OF 2010

yeah, i know. i hate this time of year when everybody and their moms thinks we need to hear what they're faves of the past year (in any given category of things) were.

we know most peeps could give a toss about what we here at THE FLAVOR CREATIVE think of music videos. but that's why we're doing it our way - solely for posterity's sake. y'know, kinda for when we look back at our digital scrawlings in the distant future to remind of us of what we were once into... um, yeah.

with that being said, i'll cut straight to the chase to let our(future)selves know that it was one of those years where it became a straight-up toss up between all three of these mini celluloid masterpieces, and just so that we remember, they are being shown in no particular order as to show preference, mind you. (ps - well maybe just a little more conceptual innovation in the direction of mr. guincho, but not enough to send him hurdling over the other two).

finally, future us - it's truly important to remember that these met every which one of our criteria: all three were truly engaging, innovative and of course, entertaining - but if we had to make ourselves choose a number one - i'm sure we would have really disappointed ourselves (in a good way).

Crystal Castles on Jimmy Kimmel Live

effin' american audiences - it's like they're never really into the really good music - even when it's offered up (for free) right in front of them. pshaw!

for a good laugh, check out scared dude at about 2:48 of the vid... it's like Kimmel promised him a treat if he acted interested in the band, but all he really wanted to do was run out of the joint... but decided he could muster up enough courage to stay for the treat. heh.

on a much more positive note - crystal castles will be playing a full-on NYE show at the Boulder Theater for which tix have already been purchased. maybe i should try to get a hold of scared dude and offer him a second chance at appreciating in an environment where all of the audience will (i guarantee) be full-on wild, interested and interactive throughout.

Flashback Friday

pick your poison.

SKINS UK > SKINS US

FLAVOR's top 5 (obvious) reasons why SKINS UK > SKINS US:
- the music
- british accents
- no consideration had to be given to FCC standards
- the casts' acting abilities
- realistic dark humor (not of the american cheese variety)
- cassie.

only good thing about the US version might be two-fold:
- snooki and the situation will obviously be replaced by a good storyline
- american teens might actually expect better tv writing afterwards

Creep - "Days"

Get Busy Committee - "Opening Ceremony"

the second single being released from GBC's upcoming 2011 album... if booze, guns, smoking trees, foamy hot tub shots, skull masks, coyote headgear, and puppies in woodchippers aren't your thing - then we're gonna recommend you stay away from this one - heck, even if they are, you're still gonna need to prepare yourself for it.

KANYE/RICK ROSS/JAY Z/NIKKI MINAJ - "MONSTER" TEASER

this video teaser really reinforces some of the things we've been bloggin' and having conversations about here at THE FLAV as of late. more specifically, a certain thing like, "everybody seems to be moving over to the dark side"... in an Anton LaVey kind of way, y'know? but only as a momentary gimmick.

and the thing is, is that it's not even coming across in a very real, cool, or romanticized way either. it's one thing when that's definitely your thing (i.e. Anton and let's say Slayer). those dudes were gonna do their thing regardless of what type of support there was for it - cause that's not what they were into it for.

nah, it's more like when we refer to someone like Kanye (i.e. someone pushing heavily for more marketshare), and them having to get edgier and edgier as the world turns. it's like nowadays, the darkside is the only place left to go that might actually "elicit some kind of response"  from peeps and getting 'em talking about you, rather than just kinda leave 'em hangin' in the grey areas without any type of "eliciting" going on.

you feeling us?

so yeah, in short, moving toward the kind of stuff that ONLY the darker side is capable of eliciting in this day and age where everything seems to have been done... and trendspotters like Kanye know that. there's currently lots o' start ups doing their natural dark-side thing as of late that are eliciting lots of attention nowadays - but doing it genuinely cause that's where there coming from. acts like Tyler, The Creator and the OFWGKTA crew  and SALEM to name a few; and again, trendspotters like Kanye know that... but i think i'm just starting to sound like a broken record, but i think you can get what i'm getting at.

in short, if you didn't find the new MONSTER teaser video above the slightest bit disconcerting (coming from Kanye that is), then we will kindly excuse ourselves from this conversation, as we may not have the slightest clue of what it is we're talking about anyway.

BONUS VIDS:
Tyler, The Creator "Bastard" (Teaser Vid)

Salem "Skullcrush"

the new Adidas "Nizza Hi Lux" are now available for pre-order from Crooked Tongues.

and although HS is currently referring to the special ingredient as removable "Hi Lux Fur" - they're actually feathers, and are not (repeat NOT) removable.

as "fortherecord" happily commented on HS's site "just so you know, those are feathers, and they aren't removable, so you're gonna have to man up if you wanna wear these"

word.

The Waitresses - Christmas Wrap

is it just me or does this time of year feel less and less like it should with each passing year?

luckily, when i get all "scroogey" and stuff, i find that this tune always helps ground me and bring some of that ol' spirit back.

Do You Use Facebook Or Is It Using You?

Douglas Rushkoff brings up a deep, interesting and valid criticism of social networks.

(This definitely helps reinforce our stance and feelings about FB and why we're not on there - fo' sho.)
