Parents are worried, but teenagers are sharing the love at ‘rainbow parties’, while choking each other high on meth and the fumes from their Hello Kitty nail polish.

We blame Lady Gaga and outcomes based education [OBE] on the stupidity, because according to the Times, the appearance of her eyes in the music video is computer-generated. Somebody please slap them and get them back outside playing with the dog or something like that.

It’s that time again when we school you, our faithful readers, on some of the new slang Gen Y is using in their daily lives. (And you in turn say “WTF, I’ve never heard these. Does that mean I’m one of the olds?”) To do this, we troll the blogosphere, scour the press, stalk our friends’ Facebook status updates, poll our trend reporters and talk to people on the street. Live it, learn it:

Fauxt
v. the act of avoiding human interaction by pretending to use a mobile device.
“That elevator ride with the guy I smooched at the holiday party was so painful. I was fauxting throughout the whole 15 floor journey.”

Alt
n. term used to describe a person who listens to ‘alternative’ music or to designate a ‘hipster.’ Though ‘alternative’ has been used as a music descriptor since the ’90s, HIPSTER RUNOFF blogger CARLES has reintroduced ‘alt’ as a humorous, and slightly derogatory, noun.
“Do you think that alt’s pants could be any tighter? I think I can see his veins.”

Slay
v. used to describe an action, event or experience in a positive light. A product of the melding of metal and hipster culture, ‘slay’ can be used interchangeably with ‘rule’.
“Dude, did you see Liturgy the other night at Glasslands? They totally slayed.”

OMLG (Oh My Lady Gaga)
interj. term being used by Chinese youth in place of “Oh My God” or “OMG” as an exclamation of surprise, excitement, or horror.
“OMLG, she got so fake tan over the weekend that her skin matches the carrots in my salad.”

PMFM
n. acronym for the phrase “Pure Mother F*?!ing Magic;” popularized by Insane Clown Posse, who’ve used it to describe the simple miracles around us.
“Finding a $50 bill on the street has put me in PMFM mode.”

TELEPATHE! COLD CAVE! MEMORY TAPES! PLUS OPEN BAR UNTIL 11PM… WHAT GIVES?

i’ma warm up a bit (so i don’t pull anything) and just ease into this first post of OH-10 with some casual sightings, observances and general rambling.

first off – judging from the dancefloors over the holidays to lots of DJ propaganda that has been arriving in the ol’ inbox – looks like HOUSE (as in music) is set to make a comeback this year. here’s a nice little remix done by HOT CITY of DAN BLACK’S “SYMPHONIES” that captures that sound quite nicely.

also, looking forward to season 4 of SKINS. i’ve been addicted to this thing since the opening episode when tony and the old crew drew me in like a moth to the flame… the new season begins in a couple of weeks. check their site for listings.

and last, but certainly not least, i sure hope i can make it to this while out on a coinciding business trip. dudes are killing it with their next level painting styles.

Gen Pop
n. term used to describe the general population when “bridge and tunnel,” yuppies, tourists or “undesirable” individuals “intrude” upon an event, outing, club or local restaurant
“Did you see that girl on the dance floor wearing purple Uggs? Wow, the gen pop really takes over this place on Saturdays. Let’s go to a dive bar.”

G.O.M.L.
v. acronym for the phrase “Get on My Level;” said when one person both wants to imply that someone else can’t keep up and wants to urge them to catch up
“C’mon, pot bellies are totally in . G.O.M.L., and order some chili cheese fries.”

Cuddy
n. a word used to describe something shady or sneaky
“He’s still listed as single on Facebook, even though they have been dating for, like, three months. That’s so cuddy!”

Curl
v. a new way to crop your pants without cuffing; best for skinny jeans, curling is when you roll the bottoms of your pant legs very tightly two or three times, creating a delicate cinch above the ankle
“If you wanna show off the studs on your boots, you should curl your jeans.”

Guacamole
n. money, cash, or funds
“If we’re going to that bar, I’m gonna need to stop at the ATM to grab some guacamole for drinks.”

Post-Zuckerberg
adj. term used to describe the era of Facebook ubiquity
“In the Post-Zuckerberg era, I never email anyone, well, except for my gram and when I’m trying to dig my way out of funemployment.”

When Fox Broadcasting announced this spring that it was adding to its prime-time television schedule a musical comedy about a high school glee club, there was plenty of reason to doubt it would succeed.

“Glee” might be changing that, drawing an average audience of about 7.8 million viewers, according to the Nielsen Company. It ranks 51st among all primetime broadcast shows in total audience and 29th among viewers age 18 to 49, the demographic group most desired by advertisers.

What is more, the show’s musical performances are as much — if not more — of a hit as the television episodes. Last week, “Glee” cast recordings accounted for 10 spots on the iTunes list of top 200 downloaded songs and four places on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week.

i was catching up with some TV this weekend after having been away from home for what seems like months (yes i am prone to giving in to the occasional mindlessness once in a while) – and i got to watching ms. cox’s new series COUGAR TOWN cause i’ll watch anything with ms. cox in it. (sidenote: who the hell was responsible for cancelling DIRT?) and was a bit delighted that they had decided to include FLORENCE + THE MACHINE’S little ditty “KISS WITH A FIST” in this particular episode.

F+TM’s album has been playing on the iPhone since its summer release, although it still boggles me that it has yet to be released in the states, so i thought it a wonderful little surprise.

nevertheless, if the next show does something similar, i think i’m in for the long haul.

who am i kidding, i’d be watching even if courtney and crew took the show into a deep nose-dive with their bad acting and ratings until they pried the remote from my denial-ridden hands.
